EPISODE 01
My mother once declared to her family, “I’m going to stop turning every single load of laundry over and looking for a pair. “I’m not going to turn every piece of laundry over and look for a pair anymore.” When I heard that, I thought, “Well, that’s not going to change. When I heard this, I thought, “What’s the difference? I thought, “What’s going to change? But when the chores stopped, I had to find pairs of socks in the drawer, and more socks were being turned over and washed than I had expected. Then it occurred to me that my mother had always done this for me, so that when I was busy leaving in the morning, I could leave without looking for my socks and without turning them over.
I was under the illusion that I was able to do this as if it were my mother’s original job, not realizing that she did it every day. Besides this, I believe that other people are doing it as a chore for me, just because I think I am able to do it. I will try to avoid such things in the future, but if I notice or find them, I would like to say “thank you” to them.
EPISODE 02
I was not good at cleaning around the water and kept putting it off, but one day I was surprised to see it shining all of a sudden. When I asked her about it, she said that her husband had cleaned it for her and didn’t say “it’s not worth mentioning,” but if I hadn’t noticed, she would have gone about her daily life as if nothing had happened without anyone thanking her for it.
I don’t know if it’s out of kindness or out of oversight, but my husband is the hero in our house for always cleaning the water.
